I don't know what the deal is....
Tess refuses, will not, and can not be made to take a nap.
What happened to our good lil' sleeper??? We've worked so hard to be "Baby Wise" and our Tess has always been a good sleeper. I mean, she would go through stages- but overall.. a good sleeper. Lately (the past couple of months or so) she has been crying out in the middle of the night...."daddy", "DADDY!!" followed by a trip to our bed and then restful sleep the rest of the night. I however, can not sleep in a queen bed with 3 people (plus Tessie snores like a champ). We are trying to get the situation under control so she will return to our good sleeper. After talking to many "super moms" -here are some suggestions I have been given: Make her lay back down, spank her, rub her back, lay down with her, hold her down till she goes to sleep, let her cry it out, pray for her....
I would love to hear any other suggestions from any of my blogging friends!!! Anyway, nap time is a disaster it is almost not worth it to me. I let her cry for 1 hour yesterday...i felt so bad. :-( plus she never went to sleep. Here is what she had to say "i ouwanna nap"...over and over!) I wold LOVE for her to take a nap, mainly for selfish reasons like I AM EXHAUSTED!!! Anywho, last night I laid her down (she always goes to bed easily at night) at 8pm and at 10pm she started crying out, etc. I went in there, hugged her and prayed aloud for her, made her lay back down (usually I have been rocking her-which is followed by her falling back asleep, me laying her down, her waking back up, her crying....repeat steps over again until I break and take her to our room....she wins..i lose) and rubbed her back till she fell back asleep...
and guess what?
SHE SLEPT THE REST OF THE NIGHT!!! Woo Hoo! WOo HoO!
Well, this morning she woke up at 7am and I went to get her. I praised her for sleeping in her bed all night and she said "I didn't get scared" :-( I felt sooooo bad. I have never heard her say she was scared at night. Poor thang. Maybe she had been having those night terrors?? Anyway, I would love to hear any advise from anyone that may read this...strangers or friends. I need some help.
Pray for good sleep for Tess.
I might give up on the naps.........will see. night all.

Caroline still takes a morning nap, which is very nice now that I have two! But occasionally she doesn't want to take the morning one, so I let her pick 3 books to read and call it her "quiet" time. She will read books and always falls asleep. Its nice because she doesn't put up a fight and I get a break... well a least with one! :) I will say a prayer, parental sleep is very important! :)
I don't have the best advice but Evan stopped taking a nap at around the age of two! Somedays I wish he still took a little one but He is just not a kid that requires alot of sleep. If he naps now he will be up til 10pm maybe later!(fun nights) A close friend's little girl was the same way. So maybe she is just at a point where she doesn't need one? As far as night I feel your pain. Evan usually ends up in my bed but that is what happens when they move to a big bed and they are no longer contained!! He feels free to come and snuggle up. Good luck with Tess. Evan will make comments now about being scared in his room also. Maybe it is just a phase that they are going through?
here are my suggetions =) we have been having similar problems since camp moved to his 'big boy bed' -
make sure she has a night light that is dim enough for sleep, but brightt enough for her to see and not be scared.
remind her that mommy and daddy will protect her no matter what and that God is watching over her without harping on being 'scared' -
with camp, it is all about the routine - we are diligent about doing the same things we did and in the same order as we did them in his nursery...
he also has his comfort items: two blankies, his special soft pillow, elmo, and bunny - maybe if she doesn't have one, you could get her a new pillow? camp has one that is the travel size with a minky dot case and LOVES it - maybe you could make this a big deal and it could help her feel more secure... i m all for a few 'crutches' =)
camp also sleeps with a sound machine -
one rule that we have made is that we don't lay down with him - and he can't come into our bed before 6 am -
he used to sleep til 8:30, then started getting up and comng into our room around 6 saying he couldnt find his passy and wanted to lay with us -
(this was after the big boy bed switch)
anywho... this is just what we are doing - it is hard, but after a few days of tough love and rocking in the chair, he is back to normal - most nights =)
